A worm as long as a house that swims through the desert. Under the sand nothing can touch it - only a wave in the dunes shows where it goes. It rises under whoever it hunts, and the ground shakes and is marked before it does. Wounded, it stays in its crater and drinks the sand in, pulling everything toward its mouth; at a third of its strength its belly plates split and it hunts faster.
What it says
“...warm... feet on the sand... the sand tells me where you stand. Everything that walks here, the sand swallows. You too.”
“I was here when this was sea. The sea went. I stayed, and ate what it left.”
“Dry... I am so dry...”
“The dunes... will forget you... as they forgot me...”
What it leaves
